Other variants such as Cymbopogon Nardus is used to produce Ionone, perfumes and insect repellents. Containing 45% citronella and 40% geranoill oil, this plant is also used in the synthesis of vitamin A.

An Ancient crop, turmeric has a distinctive taste and musty smell. Extensively used as food colouring, for example in mustard and curry powders. This particular spice is also used in Hindu religious rituals, as a cosmetic, and dye for cotton, silk and wool fibres.
